Linux---Computer---Workshop to be held on Wednesday 4th July 2012 by the Linux Supporters Group Adelaide at the South-West Community Centre 171 Sturt Street, Adelaide The Linux Supporters Group Adelaide promotes Linux and Open-Source Software, and we meet on the first Wednesday of each month at the South-West Community Centre, from 7.30pm to 10pm. This meeting will be a hands-on workshop where we shall present the following topics: * Configuring a gateway using IP forwarding to install packages * Configuring terminal sharing using the 'screen' program * Introduction to the Command Line * Hands-on Exercises using 'bash' * Developing confidence reading scripts * Topics include: -- Case conditional branching -- Command chaining -- Command History -- Command-line editting -- Command-line expansion -- Conditional execution of subsequent commands -- Conditional If-Then-Else -- Define Aliases -- Error return codes -- Job control Foreground/Background processing -- Loops For-While-Until -- Menu creation -- Positional parameters -- Quoting and Escaping -- Read Command Manuals -- Redirection -- Sequential execution via pipes -- Script-capture for analysis. *** Bring your laptop/tower if you wish *** Participants may be guided by people with computer expertise and they can learn Linux through our hands-on approach.
